History of the Club

Welcome to the blog of FC "Ukrainian Lions".
First of all, we would like to tell a little about history of the team.
The club has been established in 1997 by students and administration of St. Basil College Seminary. The team has gone through the time of transformations and changes many times, talented players have been added to the mail squad, and some of the old stars, who contributed their talents and valor, left to become the honorable members of Ukrainian Lion's family. Although the majority of players are ukrainians, we also have wonderfull players from Slovakia, Peru, Poland as well as guys who were born in the States.
The coach of the team, Dino Angelov, represents Macedonia -which gives some leverage to the team - knowing the victorious battles of Alexander the Great - Dino's countryman. Talking about formation of our team, it is important to mention the names of the following coaches, such as Serhiy Rayko who worked with the team from 1998 to 1999 and brought the team to the finals that season. His professional experience (former player of Dynamo Kyiv and Tavriya Simferopil) and dedicated approach contributed greatly toward development of the club. His successor, Stepan Yendyk, carried on a great tradition of Easter European Soccer, improving team's performance and skills of the players. Stepan was coaching from 2001 to 2003 and he has outlined style of the play, as well as ifluenced player's dedication toward the team.
FC "Ukrainian Lions" has been actively involved in the life of ukrainian community in Stamford, and the Tri-State area. We have participated in the cultural and sport events and received some distinguished honors. The team has been playing in Amateur Soccer League of Connecticut for the past 6 years. Our claim to fame was a second place twice in the season of 1999 as well as in 2005. We have been looking forward to perform a colorful and exciting game every season and, certainly, our main goal is to become the champions of the League.
The team is gratefull to all supporters and donors who have made it possible for us to enjoy the spirit of the true sportsmanship. We would appreciate your further support and co-operation. Also we express our appreciation and gratitude to all the players and fans who have immensely contributed to the success of our team
